Contemporary Gardens... are typically in small blocks and have a mixture of Potted and Garden Bed Plants, can also include Ground Covers and Paving Stones, this type is more Water Efficient by its nature.
Bush Gardens... are a mix of Native, Tropical and Potted Exotic Plants that are well structured and raised around a building or a house, sometimes used as borders.
Container / Potted Gardens... are usually the Gardens or the collection of Plants that are all together in the same area that are being raised in Pots instead of being raised in the Ground.

Now that you know, what type of Garden you have, here are some Energy Saving Tips for you...

Tropical Gardens:

Replace your Existing Plants with a new Water Efficient Types of Plants.
Make sure that your Garden Beds are properly mulched.
Use Drip Irrigation rather than Spray Irrigation.
Increase your mulched areas with Wood Chip and Pine Bark, both are very moist in characteristics and keep the Fertilizers and the Soil Moist.
Use Solar Energy Powered Pumps, Hoses and Sprinklers and Use Solar Energy for Lighting.

Contemporary Gardens:

Best Watering time are usually before Sunrise or After Sunset.
Stick to using the Best Types of Fertilizers that suit your Plants and that mixes well with the type of Soil you are using.
Stick to the most suitable Irrigation System based on your Plants types and Locations, for example drip irrigation would be more suitable for Plants Roots but wouldn't be suitable for the Grass.
Waste Water can be very healthy for watering a plant and saving on water usage at the same time, you might use Grey Water or Sewage Water, as they hold many good minerals for Plants Health.
Always maintain the Soil moist, so it doesn't need to watered more often.
