Energy Saving Tips for Factories

Manufacturing Facilities from different Industries around the world are becoming increasingly-aware of their Roles and Responsibilities towards Energy Conservation.

An Environmental Friendly Factory will not only help Maintaining our Environment Sustainability, it will also achieve a more Sustainable Profit by Reducing Energy Costs...

Energy Saving Tips For Factories

A more Environmental Friendly, Profitable and Sustainable Factory will be of a great added Value to the Business, the Customers as well as to the Staff and to the Community...

Learning some Environmental Friendly Practices will prove Beneficial to the Business, to our Resources and to our Environment....

Here are some simple tips to set you on the road for a more Sustainable Approach:

Electricity Saving Tips:

  • Since in most of the Factories, Appliances, Machines and Equipment are the greatest contributors to Electricity costs, upgrading them to new and High-Efficient ones will be really necessary.

  • Motors with variable Loading Applications will require "Variable Frequency Drives" (VFDs) and "Variable Speed Drives" (VSDs) to be installed.

  • Secondary Equipment that are not critical and for the Manufacturing Process can be operated on Non-Peak Hours.

  • Ensure a Regular Maintenance of all HVAC equipment in the Factory and schedule periodic Check-ups to monitor performance and ensure maximum Efficiency.

  • Lower Production during Peak Hours and maximize it outside Peak Hours, to reduce Electric Loads.

  • Consider Planning some Production during night hours instead of morning hours during Summer Time to reduce the dependence on ACs and Ventilations, and increase Production during morning hours in Winter Time to reduce dependence on Heating during Night Time.

  • Set all your Air Conditioners Thermostats on 24ºC during working hours and switch them off or set them on 27ºC during Non-Working Hours.

  • Make use of Natural Daylight as much as possible or use Sun-Pipes for lighting your Factory during Morning hours rather than depending on Electric Bulbs and Lamps.

  • Renew All Electric Appliances that are more than 10 years old, replaced by the latest, High-Efficiency rated ones.

  • Replace all lights with Efficient LED Lights to reduce the Electricity Consumption.

  • Regularly monitor and audit Water & Electricity Usage in the Factory to take quick corrective actions whenever needed.

  • Regularly Check on any leaks and take immediate action in repairing the Leaks.

  • Replace al the belt drives by V-Cogged Belt Drives, to reduce Motors outputs, hence reducing Electricity Consumption.

  • Regularly Check for any loose connections in Electrical Lines and around the Facility.

  • Switch Off all unused Equipment, Devices and Appliances.

  • Clean all Machinery Regularly to maximize their Performance and their Efficiency.

  • Make Sure that All Cold or Hot Water Tanks are well insulated.

  • Monitor all External Walls, Doors and Windows and seal them properly to avoid any air or heat leakage and minimize cooled air escape.

  • Place Energy Saving Instructions Labels all around the Facility to educate Staff and Labors.

  • Encourage different Factory workers to use the Stairs more often than the Elevators.

  • Consider installing Solar Water Heaters, Solar PV Stations and Solar Lightings to increase dependence on Renewable Energy and reduce Operational Costs.

Water Saving Tips:

  • Install Tap Timers in Public and Private Washrooms.

  • Install Water Pressure Regulators or Calibrated Water Control Systems for all Water Usage Areas.

  • Replace all old Toilets Flush Systems with the new Dual-Flush ones.

  • Use recycled and sewage Water instead of Fresh Water to irrigate all Green Areas.

  • Use Drip Irrigation Methods  instead of Spray or Hose Irrigation Methods.

  • Install Timers on all your Irrigation Systems to avoid any unnecessary use of Water.

  • Regularly Check all Pipelines and Hoses for Leakages and take immediate corrective Actions to fix the Leakages.

  • Re-use Waste Water instead of Fresh Water Whenever Possible.

  • Use High-Pressure Low Volume Water Sprayers for washing Waste Materials.

  • Regularly Review and Compare Monthly Water Bills to ensure that Water is being used in the most Cost-Effective Ways.

  • Use more of Dry Methods for cleaning and removing Waste Purposes rather than depending on Wet Methods.
